Taken this morning just before dawn. B+W circular polarizer and a Lee .6 ND Grad.
It’s a hard shot, I’ve tried many times and still haven’t mastered this one. The contrast between light and dark is so great it makes this one of the toughest dawn/sunrise shots to get.
Hi Paul,
I like this image a lot. I like that you took a different take in this so familiar scene.
Cheers!
Hi Sven
Thanks.
Like you, I have seen many images from this location. Everyone takes this photo; the morning I was there I was one of 15 people shooting this scene! I wanted to take a shot a little different from the typical golden glow on the mountains kind of deal that you usually see so I went early and shot before dawn and left once the sun was just about to break.
The other photographers probably thought I was nuts.
Cheers
Paul
This is a beautiful shot!
Where is this? It’s going on my “list of places to see”

This is a great effort. Brilliant.
Thanks Faisal
Hopefully I’ll return in winter and get the shot with cloud cover and snow that I really wanted.
Paul
I absolutely love nature and as an aspiring photographer I am awestruck by the scenes you’re able to capture, there is not a photo on your blog that I wouldn’t hang on my wall!
Amazing work!
