In a dark tunnel

As you may be aware I’m trying to get a time-for-prints project off the ground. It hasn’t been easy to get any takers thanks mostly to the recent Media Temple outage that took my site offline for a week. Thankfully Manuel over at San Francisco Daily Photo came to my rescue and came out shooting with me. He helped carry stuff and he acted as a model for me. Then he helped me later in the day while I took some shots of some friends…all for the princely sum of one beer!

This shot of Manuel was taken using a single 580 EX II with a Honl Photo 1/4″ speed grid at 90 degrees to camera left, zoom at 50mm, 1/4 power.

In the out-takes I found a shot that was part way to being very cool and I plan to work on making it a reality very soon.

So, to summarise; shooting with lights is tiring, help is nice, beer is also nice. Thanks Manuel!

Update (17th of May 2009): Manuel has posted the shots he liked from this evening on his website.

Thanks Adam. I had planned to shoot this using the same composition but with two gridded strobes but I forgot one vital cable so I couldn’t do it. There’s a lesson learned; check & double check your gear before you leave the house!

Nice work, I like where you are going with this. I had looked at the Honl grids and wondered how they would be, looks like they can do a good job.

Looking forward to the out take.
